Think back to that old trick when you were a kid and jammed a piece of cardboard against the spokes of your bicycle’s wheel to make the clackety sound of an engine. The sound of the engine in the cabin of many modern cars can be likened to that.
Today’s engines are not only smaller, cleaner and more efficient than the big V6s, let alone V8s, of yesteryear; they are also a lot quieter thanks to modern baffles and mufflers. Indeed, the dominant sound in cabins these days is often the hum of the tires.
