The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed General Motors a couple of weeks ago that it was going to begin a preliminary evaluation of Chevrolet Volt battery assemblies and GM supported the testing. Then, reports started to circulate stating the batteries in the Volt were the reason for the electrical fires. GM announced initiatives for customer satisfaction and battery safety research to ensure ongoing confidence in the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle.
Now, GM is explaining the Volt Customer Satisfaction Program. Below is information released from GM:
General Motors is committed to its customers and safety above all else. In speaking with reporters on Thursday, Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson reiterated what the company announced earlier this week. He did not announce any new initiatives. GM has established a Volt owner satisfaction program offering any Volt owner concerned about safety to contact his or her Volt advisor to exchange the Volt for a free GM vehicle loan until resolution of the issue. We are serious about keeping customers happy. And, as we’ve said, we will continue to work closely with National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, suppliers, dealers and manufacturing teams to initiate any necessary changes as soon as possible. The Volt achieved a five-star overall vehicle score for occupant safety in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program and is a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. We are committed to providing a rewarding ownership experience for our Volt owners.
