Washington — The number of U.S. auto dealers rose slightly in 2012 to 17,815 — up for the second straight year, according to a report released Thursday.
Dealer consulting firm Urban Science said average auto sales at dealerships rose 13 percent in 2012 and it expects the number of auto dealers to remain stable for a third straight year. As of Jan. 1, 2013, there were 17,851 dealerships, a 0.5 percent increase from 17,767 a year earlier.
