SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Visitors to the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show can expect to be greeted by debut models from Porsche, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, among others, reports Edmunds’ InsideLine.com, the premier online source for automotive enthusiasts.
“The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show is shaping up to be one of the best shows in years,” said Scott Oldham, editor-in-chief at Edmunds’ InsideLine.com. “There’s always a particular buzz for the Frankfurt show, and this year we’ll see dozens of new cars, with nearly every major automaker planning to participate. But Europe’s luxury automakers are clearly drawing the most attention at this show.”
Headlining the public debuts in Frankfurt is the 2012 Porsche 911. The new Carrera and Carrera S are expected to go on sale in February of 2012 with base prices of $82,100 and $96,400, respectively. Based on information gathered from insiders, InsideLine says that the new Porsche will be “an evolutionary step that introduces new technology and improved performance without leaving behind the styling that made it a legend.”
German luxury brand Audi will also reveal at the show its upcoming line of revamped S models. The S6, S7 and S8 won’t hit U.S. shores until late 2012, but Europeans may be able to get their hands on one by next spring. Inside Line reports that Audi has managed to improve the S models in both performance and fuel economy, with the V8 engine on the S6 and S7 models expected to reach 24 mpg.
Frankfurt will also host the introduction of Mercedes-Benz’s new B-Class model. The company’s latest compact offering is expected to go on sale in Europe later this year, with plans to debut in the U.S. market in 2012.
The 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show will be open to the public this Thursday through September 25, with media days scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Full coverage of the show can be found now on Edmunds’ InsideLine.com at http://www.insideline.com/
