Buying a used car can be downright miserable.
A few years ago, while he was still a graduate student at MIT, Ale Resnik bought a used Jeep Liberty so he could explore the great state of Massachusetts, and just days later, the vehicle broke down on the highway. When he tried to return it, the dealership refused, and he ended up suing for damages. “I came to understand how unprotected people are when they’re buying a vehicle,” Resnik remembers.
So he’s working to make amends. Resnik is now the CEO of Los Altos, California-based Beepi, a startup that’s using online tech to cut traditional dealers out of the used-car equation.
