Reassuring news comes as worst car-theft days near
PHOENIX – Today Inilex, a leading provider of aftermarket telemetry solutions for vehicles, announced that 2012 will be the third straight year it has achieved a 100 percent recovery rate for vehicles using its SkyLINK anti-theft and vehicle recovery devices. Inilex’s perfect vehicle recovery rate is attributed to its superior GPS technology that works nearly everywhere in the United States and Canada, and its integrated law-enforcement procedures that enable car and motorcycle thieves to be caught in the act, and the stolen vehicles returned to their rightful owners.
The vast majority of Inilex’s recoveries occurred within minutes of the theft first being reported, while other major anti-theft providers, which often tout recovery rates from 75 to 90 percent, can include abandoned vehicles that are eventually recovered by the police much later – not necessarily as a result of the theft recovery device.
The news of its 100 percent recovery rate comes just as the country is about to hit two of the worst days of the year for auto-theft: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, New Year’s Eve and Day are two of the busiest days for car thieves, with more than 4,000 cars stolen these two days alone last year. In addition, the winter is an extremely active time for thieves because of “puffers” – or cars left running, but unattended, while they warm-up.
“With all of the distractions of the holidays, people tend to think less about the safety of their vehicles, leaving their keys in the ignition or parking them in strange locations overnight while they celebrate the New Year,” said Inilex CEO Michael Maledon. “The truth is there’s never a better time to be diligent. New Year’s Day is the second most popular for car thefts and, given that cars without a tracking device only have a 44% chance of being recovered, motorists can be easily left out in the cold.”
Costs associated with vehicle theft average $6,505, and often include paying the insurance deductible, the cost of replacing the vehicle that is not covered by insurance, insurance premium increases, time spent dealing with police, vehicle rental fees, time spent off from work, and the loss of personal items inside the vehicle, which are typically not covered by auto insurance.
According to the FBI, there were an estimated 715,373 thefts of motor vehicles nationwide in 2011, yet less than 12 percent of those crimes resulted in an arrest. Unless they are caught in real-time by law enforcement, car thieves are not likely to be charged with a crime and are free to offend again.
SkyLINK helps motorists recover their cars instantly, saving them thousands of dollars and the hassle of replacing a vehicle. Additionally, it enables police to catch thieves because the next-generation GPS technology imbedded in SkyLINK can pinpoint a car’s exact location in real time almost anywhere in the country, even while it’s moving. When a vehicle is reported stolen, SkyLINK tracks its locale within seconds and reports it as a “crime in progress” to police, making it a top priority for law enforcement who can act immediately to not only recover the car, but nab the thief driving it.
“Many theft-recovery devices rely on outmoded radio signals that work only in certain locations or provide only a general idea of where a car is located,” said Maledon. “While this can sometimes lead to the car being recovered, it can often take days before the exact location is pinpointed. By that time, the car is stripped, the valuables inside are gone and the perpetrator is on to the next crime. SkyLINK’s recovery rate is second-to-none in the industry, and what’s more, the device can recover vehicles almost immediately, giving the police a real opportunity to apprehend the criminals and dismantle major theft rings.”
In addition to SkyLINK, Inilex offers SkyLINK PROTECT , which enables vehicle owners to monitor their car no matter who is driving it, including the car’s speed, its location, and even certain diagnostic information such as the battery level. SkyLINK PROTECT helps promote safe driving habits and is particularly valuable to parents of teenagers, employers with a mobile workforce and family members of high-risk drivers. The company also offers InilexGPS FLEET – a solution for small businesses with fleets up to 50 vehicles as well as SkyLINK Powersport, which is an anti-theft devices for ATVs, motorcycles, boats and other powersport vehicles.
