MIT Technology Review’s New Issue Reveals Annual 50 Disruptive Companies List

Published: February 21, 2013
Annual 50 Disruptive Companies ListCAMBRIDGE, Mass — Today, MIT Technology Review releases its 2013 list of 50 Disruptive Companies (formerly the TR50). Over the last 12 months, in their multiple tech fields, the honorees have taken risks to unsettle an existing marketplace or create a new market entirely.

Jason Pontin , publisher and editor in chief, states, “The pace at which technology changes is astounding. This issue celebrates organizations at the forefront of radical change, displaying ‘disruptive innovation’ that will prove to surpass the competition, transform an industry, and change our lives.”

The list is not a ranking based on market performance; rather, it identifies companies of all sizes, around the world, that are pushing the envelope of current business models to drive innovation and create significant impact in the marketplace. Only 14 of the 50 companies make a return from the 2012 list, demonstrating the rapid pace of change and proving that a spot on the 50 Disruptive Companies list is less secure and more valuable than membership in other industry lists.

The March/April issue of MIT Technology Review will be available on newsstands worldwide March 5 and online at technologyreview.com on February 20.
