Automaker’s Ads — Pulled or Rotated?

Published: September 28, 2011

Ford Motor Company has recently pulled television ads that featured messages backing the fact that the automaker did not take the government bailout money, according to The Detroit News. The story, that ran in the opinion section, said Ford pulled the ad after people from the White House wondered if the copy was a direct jab at the government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler back in 2009. What are your thoughts?

A Ford spokesperson commented on this story with this message: “The story is that the ad ran its natural cycle – it’s part of a campaign that regularly swaps in new ads – and that it continues to be available online: http://www.youtube.com/ford#p/…. That column in the Detroit News contained some speculation (especially the line that reads “Well, not technically…”). We supported emergency government aid for our competitors in 2008 and 2009 and stand by the decisions we made.”
