Smail Auto Group Turns Buildings Pink

Greensburg, PA — A busy highway in Greensburg, PA has taken on a rosier glow, thanks to Smail Auto Group. Over 5,000 square feet of pink vinyl was used to cover each of the dealership’s eight buildings. It is part of the “Smail Auto Group Cares” campaign, developed in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Breast cancer has touched our family, our organization and our community,” says Bud Smail. “As a company,” Jim Smail continues, “we wanted to do something that would really make a statement and motivate the community to support this vital cause.”

Breast cancer awareness is a cause that is very close to the hearts of the Smail family. Two family members, Kathy (Smail) Johnson and Kelly Smail are both breast cancer survivors, and Kathy’s husband, Dr. Ron Johnson, is a breast cancer surgeon at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. “The key is early detection,” explained Kathy and Kelly. “If the sight of a bright pink Smail building makes even one woman remember that it’s time to get a mammogram or perform a self-breast examination, we have achieved our goal.”

The pink covered buildings are only the beginning of the company’s commitment to supporting breast cancer awareness, screenings, research and education. Smail Auto Group will donate $100 for every new and used vehicle sold at their dealerships throughout the month of October. Donations will be distributed to the Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Westmoreland Walks, Inc. “Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer.”

Smail Auto Group employees will also be raising money for the cause. Throughout the month, there will be two “Wear Pink” days, where they can donate money and stray from the every day uniform. “Our employees are our greatest asset and having so many of them rally around this important cause really puts into perspective the impact this disease has on so many people in our community,” states Lindsey Smail. “We are just happy that we can use our visibility to raise awareness and funds that will someday contribute to a cure.”

Customers are also able to help by making a donation when they have their vehicles serviced or repaired at any Smail Auto Group service center or Smail Collision Center. In return for their donation, the first 2500 supporters to donate will be given a pink breast cancer awareness bracelet.

Beginning October 15th, Smail customers and members of the community are invited to come out to the dealerships to sign the pink areas of the buildings through the end of the month. Whether it’s in celebration of someone who has survived breast cancer, someone who is currently battling the disease, or in memory of a friend or family member who has lost their battle and is greatly missed, Smail Auto Group hopes to fill the outside of the buildings with messages of hope and remembrance.

So, while Smail Auto Group’s pink covered buildings may catch your eye, the Smail family and their employees are hoping that the project not only gets attention for it’s outward appearance, but more importantly for what it represents: A commitment to raising awareness and funds to fight a disease that has touched the lives of so many women and families in our community.

Smail Auto proudly represents nine new car franchises – Acura, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Cadillac and GMC – five service and parts centers, Smail Collision Center, Smail Auto Glass and the brand new Smail Auto Car Wash/Detail Center . They are committed to complete customer satisfaction and are honored to be continually ranked high by their valued customers. In addition to supporting breast cancer charities, Smail Auto Group also supports numerous other causes and local charitable organizations.
