According to the New York Times, Ford and other hybrid and high-efficiency car manufacturers are exploring an understated but essential part for decreasing fuel costs and increasing average city MPG. Below, low-resistance tires, increased and improved tread, low-resistance tires, easy-rolling tires, new materials, and other traction changing, efficiency improving options are explored.
“These solutions may include the use of hybrid powertrains, adopting lightweight materials, cutting aerodynamic drag and minimizing the friction losses of moving parts.
There’s another path to fuel efficiency that may be less attention-getting, yet rather effective: equipping the cars with low-rolling-resistance tires…”
