According to the New York Times, Ford and other hybrid and high-efficiency car manufacturers are exploring an understated but essential part for decreasing fuel costs and increasing average city MPG. Below, low-resistance tires, increased and improved tread, low-resistance tires, easy-rolling tires, new materials, and other traction changing, efficiency improving options are explored.
