Apple CarPlay coming to over 40 new car models in 2015, from CNET.
After a sluggish first year, Apple’s in-dash smartphone software is finally picking up steam.
It looks like Apple’s CarPlay in-dash connectivity is finally picking up steam. Every major automaker is now committed to delivering vehicles featuring CarPlay in future vehicles, Apple’s Tim Cook announced today at its Spring Forward event in San Francisco, one year (almost to the day) after the announcement of the software.
Apple CarPlay is software installed in the infotainment system of a car that allows a connected iPhone to take over the dashboard display, replacing it with a simplified version of Apple’s iOS 8. CarPlay allows the user to interact with the audio and audio-streaming services, messages, maps and phone functions of their iPhone while locking the driver out of more distracting apps and functions not directly related to driving the car.
