What do you get when you cross a group of high school students with cameras, lights, and action? We’re about to find out! I am excited to announce that the next Fixed Ops Roundtable Pop-Up event will be held at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, June 26th from 8:30am to 6:00pm.
The Pop-Up event will showcase the Full Tank Automotive Camp, a week-long, residential summer camp powered by General Motors. The camp gives high school students an immersive experience in the auto industry and a taste of college life at Northwood University.
Fixed Ops Day Pop-Up Event
The Full Tank Auto Camp takes place from June 23rd-June 28th. It’s an incredible learning and networking experience for high school students who are curious about careers in the automotive industry. During their stay at Northwood University, students learn about a variety of opportunities, from sales to service, marketing to accounting, and even manufacturing.
The Fixed Ops Roundtable Pop-Up event on June 26th is aptly named “Fixed Ops Day.” I am honored to co-host this event alongside Katrina Ness, a third-year automotive management student at Northwood University. Together, we will guide participants through a day packed with interviews, insights, and hands-on learning.
An Opportunity for Aspiring Auto Enthusiasts
The Full Tank Automotive Camp provides an incredible opportunity for students to explore their automotive curiosity before they graduate from high school. The residential camp is designed to ignite passion for automotive in young minds.
Students will make new and sometimes lifelong friends, network with fellow auto enthusiasts, and learn from Northwood faculty and industry experts.
“We are thrilled to have Fixed Ops Roundtable host this event at Northwood University, so we can put on display all the amazing activities and learning experiences that our camp provides,” said Elgie Bright, Associate Professor and Department Chair at Northwood University. “We have incredible sponsors, alumni, and industry participants who have stepped up to make this a week that students will never forget.”
A Week of Exciting Activities
Students at the camp will enjoy a variety of activities designed to help them gain insights into all aspects of the auto business and discover that there is a place for everyone in this industry.
Some of the activities include:
- Visiting the Automotive Hall of Fame
- Field trip to the Sloan Museum of Discovery
- Behind-the-scenes tours at local dealerships
- Seeing classic car collections
- Recreational activities in the evenings, such as attending a Great Lakes Loons baseball game
- Hearing from auto industry experts
- Daily mini-challenges to stimulate creativity and confidence
- Scavenger hunt to fully immerse students in campus life at NU
Hands-On Learning and Business Skills
The camp offers a unique opportunity to learn core business skills with a focus on S.T.E.A.M. careers in the auto industry—Sales, Training, Engineering, Accounting, and Marketing.
Students will learn how dealership profit centers work, discover individual skill sets and how they relate to the auto industry, collaborate in teams, solve problems in a business setting, and hone their interpersonal communications skills. Campers will also explore the past, present, and future of automotive technologies, trends, and culture.
Under the guidance of Northwood University’s automotive students and faculty, campers will also learn how entrepreneurs and business executives drive success in a global free enterprise society. The skills gained at this camp will influence students’ future success in business, whether inside or outside the automotive industry.
Sponsored by General Motors
Sponsored by General Motors, the camp allows students to explore a variety of automotive-related career opportunities and participate in fun activities. To be eligible to attend the camp, high school students must be in the 9th through 12th grade.
