For better or worse, reality TV has taken network programming by storm. Like you, I have gotten hooked on “Storage Wars”, “American Pickers”, “Desert Car Kings” and others. I am convinced by the booming success of reality shows that a lot of Americans love to watch live interpersonal reactions. They like to see and hear how people do human things. With that being said, I came up with the idea of doing an automotive reality video series produced for an audience of new car dealers only. This is being done to give our participating dealers an opportunity to see live situations, new ideas and actual managers and salespeople talking and delivering ideas that can assist them with their own sales force.
The storyline for this reality series will be based on three phenomena of new car dealerships.
1) A magnificent story about an old car or a trade-in.
2) Weekly sales meeting to inform the sales staff about the previous week’s performance and to motivate them for the upcoming week.
3) A weekly lunch for the sales staff in the conference room with takeout food from the sales manager’s favorite greasy spoon.
We are going to record one or two of the above activities per segments each week depending on the size of the dealership and the length of the meetings. Segments will air Saturday mornings at the same time in each time zone around the country for those dealers who are participating.
We’ll kickoff the segments by having the sales manager tell their magnificent story then take a look at the car. Second, we’ll see their sales manager present the previous week’s transactions and what he or she does to motivate the sales staff for the upcoming week. We are also going to interview their most successful salespeople and ask them to share with us what they think has made them successful in the car business.
Last by not least, we are going in the conference room and partaking in that dealers Saturday greasy spoon salesperson take out lunch.
These reality series are going to be a lot of fun. Dealers, I ask you to please contact me at [email protected] if you would like to participate. Reality TV shows have a few local spots. At the current time these slots are from smaller businesses and I would strongly recommend promoting pre-owned and trucks on these channels. From what I can gather, the cost of doing so on your local cable market is not that high right now. I think there is a possibility they may change but I would look at it very closely.
I hope to see you on our viewers list as a subscriber and I would really love to see you in your store, see the car, film your sales meeting and eat that lunch.
