June 3-9 Is Tire Safety Awareness Week with Kumho Tires Rolling Out Safety Tips —
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – National Tire Safety Awareness Week begins Sunday, June 6, though transportation safety experts believe something as important as the four points of contact with the road for one’s vehicle should be a precaution all year long. For the safety awareness week, Consumer Reports Tire Test Engineer and Program Leader Eugene A. Petersen shared some of the expertise he has seen day in and day out on the job, testing the all weather performance and evaluating the tread life of hundreds of tire varieties and hopes to share these tips with all drivers.
“Checking and topping off tire air pressure is essential for running safely on the road and getting the best value out of a set of tires,” said Petersen. “Many consumers don’t check their tire pressure and those who do, often get it wrong. Consumers shortchange their tires and their own safety when they do not follow routine tire inflation checks.”
He added that properly inflated tires last longer, deliver optimum ride and handling performance and may save consumers a few more bucks at the gas pump. Overall, however, the biggest concern from improperly inflated tires is the risk of accidents due to tire blow outs or tire failure. According to the National Traffic Highway Safety Association, approximately 44 million drivers in the United States drive on underinflated tires. Both the NTHSA and the Rubber Manufacturers Association recommend drivers check their tire pressure at least once a month and before departing on any long road trip.
In conjunction with Tire Safety Awareness Week, Kumho Tires, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, is putting its support behind an easy-to-remember acronym that drivers can regularly refer to in order to ensure they and their passengers are riding on safe tires at all times. T.I.R.E.
